This workshop is designed with parents, educators and therapists in mind who work with children of various ages at different stages of development. We will take the basic principles of Movement-Based Learning and take a look at the importance of each stage of motor development, the role that reflexes play and how to best support optimal development.

Brain Gym® is often used in the Academic setting to reinforce Reading, Writing, Memory, concentration and Focus. Developmentally these activities support Fine and Gross Motor skills, help to organize vision, listening, physical coordination and balance. When the Motor-Sensory organization of these skills is not available; parents, teachers, educators and therapists search for tools to reinforce the foundation necessary for learning.

Stress management, self-confidence, self-esteem and self-expression become more important than reading, writing and spelling. Every child develops at their own perfect pace, following a very precise sequence. Tools to support development at every stage of this sequence will be presented and practiced during this highly interactive one-day workshop.

How can we adapt and apply Brain Gym Movements appropriately?

A deeper understanding of the three dimensions of Brain Gym and how they relate to development, behaviour and motor-sensory processing will enhance compassion and understanding of every unique person as the appropriate tool for that moment in time becomes available.

We will experiment using simple, flexible techniques applicable by anyone, anytime; combining Brain Gym and other modalities to calm stress, ease anxiety, reinforce self-confidence and coordination. Based on Carol Ann Erickson’s extensive Movement Exploration work, and the physiological studies on movement by Dr. Carla Hannaford, the reflex work of Renate Wennekes and Harald Blomberg, as well as my own experience over the past 15 years in the field, this dynamic course will allow you to acquire practical tools, easily integrated into your everyday life.
